The Queensland Law Society has recognised Brisbane law firm Results Legal as the 2024 Employer of Choice this week for its commitment to nurturing young lawyers, diversity and inclusion initiatives and ongoing professional development for all staff through its ‘Grow Our Own’ program.
Focused on mentorship and equitable career advancement, Results Legal’s ‘Grow Our Own’ program provides real-life courtroom opportunities for early career lawyers to accelerate their technical and interpersonal skills, leading to a more dynamic, client-focused workplace culture.
Results Legal Managing Director Karl Hill believes that it’s important for firm leaders to nurture and develop employee talent at all levels to benefit clients and contribute to the profession.
“It is critical for mid-tier firms to offer opportunities early in a lawyer’s career. To allow them to be client-facing and go to court – opportunities they may not get at larger firms. This enables them to develop their people and technical skills. It’s a huge motivator for our employees, promotes innovation and contributes to a dynamic, results-driven workplace,” Karl said.
“We see more often that employees want to work at a firm that aligns with their values. They want to make a real difference and meaningfully contribute to client matters.
We can provide that through a personalised career roadmap, regular mentoring and peer learning opportunities as part of the ‘Grow Our Own’ program,” Karl added.
Since implementing the ‘Grow Our Own’ program, Results Legal has also experienced higher retention rates and quicker career progression through the firm.

Nicholas Boyce progressed from Graduate to Principal in 6.5 years at Results Legal. He credited his accelerated career path to the mentoring he received.
“The regular and detailed feedback from a technical perspective is something I don’t think I would have received at a larger firm. As a junior lawyer in a large firm, you may see a Principal once a month.
At Results Legal, the Principals were accessible to me, and I believe this was instrumental in developing my skills, confidence and clarity of career progression,” Nicholas said.
Results Legal has also seen the growth of women in law progress under the ‘Grow Our Own’ program. In contrast to the Australian law industry’s 35.2 per cent (across top 50 firms) female partnership, Results Legal boasts 50 per cent women in leadership and 60 per cent women across the firm.
“To me, it’s not just achieving gender parity in our leadership team – it’s more about providing equal opportunity and rewarding based on merit. Bringing this to life means, for instance, addressing the unique challenges women face in the legal profession through supportive policies and practices. This builds confidence and adds to more diverse client solutions across our firm,” Karl added.
“Through our active engagement with industry partners, advocacy efforts and community outreach initiatives, we aim to create a ripple effect across the industry, extending our commitment to equal opportunity far beyond the confines of our workplace,” Karl said.
Adding to Results Legal’s success at the Queensland Law Society Awards, Senior Associates Charlotte Evans and Kate Molkentin were finalists in the Emerging Leader of the Year award, and Solicitor Veronika Xiao was a finalist for Graduate Lawyer of the Year.
The Queensland Law Society award ceremony was held on 24 August 2024 and aims to showcase the exemplary efforts of Queensland’s legal professionals — highlighting law and lawyers for the public good and contributing to the legal profession and broader community.
